10 music videos.

'Welcome to the Jungle' Guns and Roses


Genre: Rock/Heavy Metal.
Without looking at the music video you get the impression from listening to the lyrics and the music that the video would contain a harsh city environment, urban lifestyle, outdoors, fast pace movement and a very masculin theme.
Set in the Mid 80's.
Shot types involved are medium shots/long shots and a few close up shots of Axl Rose (lead singer and the sex appeal for audience). Two shots are also incorporated into the video mainly of Axl and a bandmate to signifie he is the main appeal and the most important factor.
Shots of instruments, guitar and drums documented as a live show, to signifie how important the music.
Shots of audience also included, to suggest the idea of 'authentic music ability' makes the audience want to get invloved ad they can relate to being at a live gig.
Male Gaze theory used 'Laura Mulvey' shots of women exposing their bodies to appeal to male audience.
The clothing used in the video adds to the mise en scene and appears to be very feminine (leather trousers, eyeliner, longhair, tights clothing) possibly appealing the the minority of the target audience which is female.

Not stereotypicaly 'sexy' female often seen in plain black clothing which is fairly masculin however some shots in dresses with slight skin showing providing small male gaze theory.
Theme of marriage appeals to women dreams.
Instruments shots to show importance and shots of crowds to draw the audience in and make them want to be there.
Happy ending-appeals to female audiences 'fairytale ending' and american audiences 'american dream'
beyonce 'Diva'

R&B, Hip hop, Pop
Male gaze- exposed female bodies, shorts, small tops.
Fashion forward, futuristic clothing suggesting modernism and the present which appeals to women from a fashion point of view.
The lyrics 'diva' and 'hustler' signify the idea of the 'the hood'
the locations of the abandoned warehouse also suggests the idea of the hood and not much wealth, however the clothing and gold manakens fo suggest wealth however 'dirty money'
Beyonce is in all the shots, with an all female dancers, this signifys independance in women which appeals to female audiences.
Some tracking shots of beyonce at beginning and end walking, confident strut.
Black and white effect , seriousness of the mood. slightly angry however may suggest there is no need for colour as the lyrics, artist and mise en scene is so strong and bold already.

Quality not brilliant- old fashioned. MID 80S.
Roses on the floor signifys old school romance- female audience.
hairstyles- oldfashioned and retro.
Jewellry worn my main singer- feminine and baby blue suit.
Main singer in most shots-appeal to womean.
Location: white room which signifys simplicity.
swinging flowers: could signify broken romance or a symbol of romance.

Clothing:Urban hoodies, gold hoops related to youth and new modern age.
M.I.A not stereotypicaly sexy but still wears leather trousers and there are close up shots of that (male gaze)
Themes- MONEY CRIME AND FAME. -young audience and both genders.

Short hair on girl-masculin.
accent-london, appeals to british audience, global audiences may not be attracted to it ad they will not beable to relate to the accent and lyrics.

The genre appeals to the male audience however the narrative and lyrics about a girl appeals to the female audience as they want to to be that girl.

Mise en scene: vintage clothing (female audience fashion forward!)
Church location- religious theme however florence and back up dancers are exposing their bodies (male gaze) signifies rebellious modern age against god.
Black represents seriousnesss of song and mood, as black is only worn in churches for funerals.
Shots -longshots of florence and dancers to show theatrical movements for effect.

Location:Nightime road/darkness with truck light behind sense of being followed but isolated..slightly mysterious
Young boy in video acts as a younger Jamie.t possibly as her appears in the beginning suggests that the themes in the narrative are experienced all the way through your life.
British accent- british audience preffered reading!
Shouty/slightly angry voice- male audience rather than female as very masculin and harsh.
Shots- tracking of boy down road and long shots as there are very eccentric and loud movement and dance moves.
A theme invloved in the lyrics is 'Love' however singing about a girl which would attract a female audience.

Location:America signified by the highway, red indian headband etc,
'Teenage dreams' lyrics related to youth and everyday themes 'love' 'happiness'
Exposed women 'Male Gaze' appeals to male audience.
Shirtless men- female attraction,
The narrative of the romance attracts eveyrone, everyones ideology that people want, they want to be the couple in the video.
Dancing in the street and jumping in pools- rebellious acts singifys modern age, as they wouldnt be as common or acceptable in the past.
Shots- closeup of Katy Perry and man being affectionate as couple to show emotion.
Eccentric clothing, hairstyles and tattoos to show freedom...wind blowing in hair to show freedom also.

London accent- preffered reading to british audience, may not attract a global audience due to the accent,
English slang also used in lyrics 'fitter' and english sarcasm 'yeah intelligent input darling' appeals again to british audiences , european may not get it.
Narrative storyline appeals to female audience as it deals with everyday issues, breaking up with a boyfriend but not wanting too 'real life and relatable'.
Shots of singer 'to show facial expression and emotion.
Mise en scene: average household, mess, clutter and person items which is relatable to a wide audience of any class of wealth or family household.
Two shot of couple sat at opposite ends of the table to signify distance.
Evryday items such as toothbrush and socks are used as an example of the couple fighting perhaps to show immaturity of the relationship as they cannot communicate with eachother directly or perhaps how wide on the scale the couple have grown apart and its effecting the world around them.
